Musician Isaiah Collier released his new single "Joy" on August 12, the title track from a forthcoming EP of the same name, premiered through SoulTracks' First Listen series. The song opens on a piano riff SoulTracks compared to the summertime warmth of Sly & the Family Stone, before swelling violins, light cymbal touches and triumphant horns join in.

Collier is known for blending jazz, African music, gospel and social activism into his work, writing and playing with the aim of leaving listeners with more than a good melody. The review drew a comparison to his biblical namesake, the prophet Isaiah, framing Collier's music as carrying both encouragement and a pointed message in the same way.

"Joy's" lyrics push listeners to hold onto hope through life's trials and uncertainty, and to keep looking for what brings joy rather than staying weighed down by circumstance. The review called the song "musical helium," meant to help listeners rise above whatever they're dealing with.

"Joy" arrives in the release calendar as one of August's new jazz singles from Isaiah Collier, ahead of the EP of the same name.
