Singer Jamila Woods books a tour marking ten years of her album Heavn

Jamila Woods has booked a tour marking ten years since her debut album, Heavn, Pitchfork reported. The run opens November 16 at the Lodge Room in Los Angeles, then stops at San Francisco's August Hall on November 18, Portland's Wonder Ballroom on November 19 and Seattle's The Crocodile on November 20, before a New York date at the Music Hall of Williamsburg on November 22 and a closing hometown show December 6 at Chicago's Thalia Hall.

"Ten years ago today the OG SoundCloud version of HEAVN was born. My first child!" Woods wrote on Instagram, announcing the tour, adding that the album showed her "a new version of myself." She described finding an old journal entry from a year before the album's release, written not long after her band M&O had broken up, in which she wondered how she would ever learn to make music "on my own."

Woods said that uncertainty gave way to something bigger: making music as a solo artist, she wrote, ended up connecting her with even more people and building a deeper relationship with her city than she had before. Heavn, which drew wide critical praise on release and later made Pitchfork's list of the 50 best albums of 2016, explored police violence, Black womanhood and self-love over soothing R&B production.

Ten years on, the tour retraces some of that same ground on the road, taking Heavn to five other cities before Woods closes the run at home in Chicago, part of a busy fall for new R&B tours joining the tour guide.
