Jeshi lines up the mixtape Headrush and leads with linea rossa

Jeshi has announced a mixtape called Headrush and released "linea rossa", a new single made with the London producer and multi-instrumentalist Cameo Blush.

The East London rapper has described the project as a love letter to nightlife, and specifically to the clubs where he found dance music before he had identification that would get him through the door. It is set for an October release and follows earlier singles "champagne" and "at the wheel".

The reasoning he has given for the record is about access rather than genre tourism. He said dance music had always been one of his biggest inspirations while he felt like an outsider to that world, DJing at friends' parties without a way of bringing his own songs into a room, and that Headrush was an attempt to put his life into songs he could play out straight away.

The mixtape closes off a busy eighteen months. He has worked with Celeste, Leon Vynehall, Vegyn and Ross From Friends, and most recently with Oscar Farrell on "Greyhound". Farrell also appears on Headrush, as do Ineffekt, Fredwave, Big Ever, Just Lil and X CLUB.

Rappers moving into dance music often do it as a side project, which is the criticism The Line of Best Fit heads off in its write-up: Jeshi's version comes from a long-standing habit rather than an afterthought, and the tape treats the club as a place to write for rather than a sound to borrow.

The Farrell collaboration was covered here when the pair shared Greyhound and set up a Peckham party. Headrush now sits on the release calendar among October's hip-hop releases.
