Bob Dylan added guitarist Jimmie Vaughan to his live band on August 1, the final date of the US leg of his 2026 "Rough and Rowdy Ways" tour, NME reported on August 4. Vaughan joined five songs into the set at the Ascend Federal Credit Union Amphitheater in Nashville, playing on "False Prophet" before returning later for "Goodbye Jimmy Reed."
Vaughan is the brother of the late Stevie Ray Vaughan and has worked with Dylan on and off since the 1990s, when he played on "Handy Dandy" during the "Under the Red Sky" sessions. He also joined Dylan onstage for nine songs at an Austin show in April 2024.
The addition caps months of line-up turnover on the tour. Guitarist Doug Lancio stepped back in June after a show at the Santa Barbara Bowl, and acoustic guitarist Bob Britt left the band weeks later, saying he was "not fired" but left for personal reasons. Jazz guitarist Julian Lage and guitarists Joel Paterson and Jad Tariq have since split guitar duties in the touring band.
The tour has also dug deep into Dylan's rarely played catalog during the run. He performed "I Shall Be Released" for the first time in 18 years at a show in Eugene, Oregon, earlier this month, and revived "You Ain't Goin' Nowhere" near Seattle for the first time since 2012.
Dylan has not said who will fill the guitar chair for the UK and European leg of the tour, which opens in Norway in October and includes five nights at London's Royal Festival Hall in December, his first London dates since a run at the Royal Albert Hall in 2024.
