Joey Bada$$ is opening up about burnout, fatherhood and his music in a new documentary series, Time Will Tell, XXL reported on August 14. The series launched August 6 and is released weekly through his YouTube channel, directed by longtime collaborator Waqas Ghani, and features previously unseen footage documenting the Brooklyn native as he reflects on his evolution as an artist while continuing to create.
The first episode, "Impulsivity," follows Joey Bada$$ through a period that included making "The Ruler's Back" and "Sorry Not Sorry," plus his Red Bull Spiral Freestyle with Big Sean and Ab-Soul. It also covers a canceled tour and how becoming a father reshaped his outlook on his career and personal life.
Episode two turns to his return to the studio and the making of his mixtape Lonely at the Top, featuring previously unseen studio demos and unreleased music, along with an early version of the song "SUPAFLEE." Busta Rhymes and Hitmaka both appear in the episode.
The docuseries leads into Joey Bada$$'s Time Will Tell residency at Blue Note, running in Los Angeles from August 29-31 and New York from September 5-7. It's part of this week's new hip-hop coverage.
