Judiciary, the Texan metallic hardcore band, released a new single called "Death Knell" on Monday, a fast, riff-heavy track built around a percussive breakdown that Stereogum's Tom Breihan compared to the intensity of old-school Sepultura. It's the second song the band has shared from their upcoming EP Stalagmite Angels, following the earlier lead single "Wall Of Skulls."
Stalagmite Angels is due out September 4 on Closed Casket Activities, the hardcore label that has released the band's music throughout its run.
Judiciary's sound sits at the harder edge of the metal scene, mixing the aggression of hardcore with the technicality of metal, and "Death Knell" leans further into that side of the band with what Breihan called gigantic riffs and an all-out thrashing pace.
The video for "Death Knell," directed by Wes Ellis, matches the song's energy with footage of a sweaty mosh pit, guns and beer, the kind of imagery that has become a signature of the band's live shows. With one more single already out and the second now released, Stalagmite Angels arrives on the release calendar in less than three weeks, giving fans a short runway to hear the rest of the record.
