Julia Holter has shared a new song called "Materia 2," the fourth single from her upcoming album Materia, arriving Friday, August 21, via Domino. Stereogum and Under the Radar both covered the release on August 18, 2026.

Materia is a companion album to Holter's 2024 record Something in the Room She Moves, and its songs were conceived around the same period. That earlier album included a track called "Materia," which Holter now revisits with both "Materia 2" and a planned bonus track, "Materia 3," styled after the bonus tracks CDs used to carry. The new album keeps the same backing band as its predecessor, including drummer Elizabeth Goodfellow, fretless bassist Devra Hoff, flutist Maia, saxophonist and clarinetist Chris Speed and synth player Tashi Wada, with Kenny Gilmore handling co-production, engineering and mixing.

"Materia 2" follows three earlier singles from the album: "The Laugh Is In The Eyes," shared in November 2024, months after Something in the Room She Moves came out; lead single "Fantasy," which arrived with a music video; and "My Lost One." Under the Radar named all three of the album's previous singles among its own Songs of the Week picks.

Something in the Room She Moves was itself the follow-up to 2018's Aviary, which Under the Radar named its own Album of the Week and placed in the top 10 of its albums of that year, a marker of how consistently Holter's records have landed with the outlet across her catalog.

Materia continues Holter's run of composerly, chamber-pop leaning indie records, and listeners can track its arrival alongside other upcoming releases on the release calendar.
