Kali Malone details her seven-track album Burning Song for October

Kali Malone has shared full details of Burning Song, a seven-track album arriving through Ideologic Organ on 30 October 2026. It is her first LP of solo compositions since All Life Long in 2024, and the setting she chose to make it in shapes almost everything about how it sounds.

The record was cut at the Thomaskirche in Leipzig, and Malone became the first musician to perform contemporary works on the church's Bach organ in the process. That instrument was built with tuning and temperament systems modelled on baroque practice, which means it is not simply a large organ but one that produces intervals a modern instrument would not.

Recording ran across two late nights in August 2025. Engineer Francesco Donadello placed more than 20 microphones around the room, a decision that matters for music this dependent on how sound decays in a large stone space. The result is closer to a document of the room than a conventional studio capture.

Malone did not play alone. Lucy Railton provides cello accompaniment across Burning Song, and Stephen O'Malley plays bowed acoustic guitar throughout, giving the album two sustained string voices alongside the organ. The three musicians previously worked together on Malone's 2023 record Does Spring Hide Its Joy.

Heavy With Fruit is the lead track and comes with a video. It sits sixth in a sequence that opens with Grieving Figure and closes on My Eve My Dawn, with Map The Path, Bells On A Branch, Crawling Ashore and Sounding A Void in between.

Malone is supporting the album with two shows at London's St Martin-in-the-Fields on 28 and 29 January, another church rather than a concert hall. Her wider itinerary splits into electronic sets, solo organ performances and dedicated Burning Song sets, which is an unusually explicit way of telling an audience what it is buying. The release sits on the release calendar with the rest of the autumn's electronic records.
