Kathleen Hanna and Ad-Rock cover a Bieber song for an anti-ICE benefit album

Kathleen Hanna and her husband Ad-Rock have covered the DJ Snake and Justin Bieber song "Let Me Love You" for Contra-ICE Vol. 1: ICE Out, a benefit compilation set for release on October 2 via SoundsGood, Pitchfork reported on August 12.

The compilation, curated by Build Art Make Change founder Dali Colorado, runs to more than 40 tracks and also carries new work from Jello Biafra, Fred Armisen, Fishbone, Ozomatli and Tom Morello. Money Mark, Beastie Boys touring musician Fredo Ortiz and former Kinison bassist Frank Figueroa all play on the Hanna and Ad-Rock track, which Beastie Boys collaborator Mario Caldato Jr. produced.

Elsewhere on the tracklist, Morello contributes "Pretend You Remember Me," Jello Biafra and the Guantanamo School of Medicine offer "Three Strikes," Ozomatli close the record with "Redline," Fishbone weigh in with "Secret Police" and Love and Rockets' David J contributes "Ice Too Cold to Thaw."

Colorado described the album in a statement to NME: "Music has always been my first language. Justice has always been my inheritance." He said he approached the sequencing as a curator, "carefully crafting a listening experience that unfolds as a journey," moving listeners through grief, anger, resilience, hope and action.

Artistic director and cartoonist Lalo Alcaraz, who also appears on the compilation, said in a statement to SPIN: "Through art, humor, and creativity, we are using free expression to remind people what is at stake." The album releases digitally and on CD, alongside a limited vinyl edition and a premium vinyl package that includes a print signed by Alcaraz and other compilation artists.

Proceeds from the album go to the National Day Laborer Organizing Network and Union del Barrio. Hanna said in a statement that she was glad to combine music with the grassroots organizing behind Contra-ICE, calling the fight against "fascism and white supremacy" something none of the artists involved could afford to ignore.

Build Art Make Change will mark the release with a day of performances from artists and DJs featured on the record, set for October 3 at La Cita in Los Angeles.

The release joins a wider run of musicians speaking out against US immigration enforcement this year, NME reported, including Bruce Springsteen's song "Streets of Minneapolis" and Billie Eilish's on-stage comments at the Grammy Awards, where she wore a pin reading "ICE OUT." It adds to a busy year for rock and hip-hop artists using music to speak on immigration policy.
