Scottish songwriter Katie Gregson-Macleod has confirmed her debut album, Albatross, arriving November 6 via Matt Maltese's label, Last Recordings on Earth, DIY reported on August 13. The record follows a period of major change, during which she parted ways with her former major label and moved back to the Scottish Highlands, and takes its title from Samuel Taylor Coleridge's poem The Rime of the Ancient Mariner, where the albatross is both blessing and curse.
Albatross is introduced by new single "Nothing Really Changes," which Gregson-Macleod calls the record's "proper 'opening number' and also its narrative conclusion." She says writing the song represented "the putting-down-of-the-pen" for the album: rather than making sense of anything, the song sits back and observes, concluding simply that nothing really does change.
The album follows her 2025 EP, Love Me Too Well, I'll Retire Early, and Gregson-Macleod is warming up for its release with a run of eight intimate UK shows supported by Bonnie Kemplay, running from Brighton's Folklore Rooms on August 26 through Bath, Cardiff and a London matinee, then York, Nottingham, Oxford and Margate in mid-September.
No release date beyond November 6 has been given for further tracks or a tracklist. Albatross sits within country and the release calendar ahead of its arrival.
