LA musicians hold their own show after the LA Jazz Festival collapses

Local acts staged an underground pop-up called Can't Cancel Jazz instead.

Local musicians in Los Angeles staged their own underground gathering, called Can't Cancel Jazz, after the LA Jazz Festival collapsed just days before it was set to open, the Los Angeles Times reported. The LA Jazz Festival's cancellation, which MusicSuey covered when it happened, had already cost the city a bill that included John Legend and Janelle Monae.

The pop-up gathering gave local acts and collectives a way to salvage some version of the event on their own terms, organized independently of the festival's official operators. MusicSuey has also covered the fallout beyond Los Angeles, including at the BKLYN Jazz Festival, which was postponed shortly after the LA Jazz Festival fell through.
