Lancey Foux releases the album THE TIME OF OUR LIVES

Lancey Foux released THE TIME OF OUR LIVES on 28 August through Human Re Sources and RCA Records, a 21-track album trailed by the singles BODY, ROCKSTAR RIDER, ALL THE TIME and CHANGE YOUR MIND.

For a record that long it is unusually closed off. Finessekid is the only guest, on TO THE MONEY, and the London artist produced much of it himself alongside snypes, who has worked with Yeat and 9mice, Vuko from the Jim Legxacy camp, Lee, who has cut records with Skepta, Jay Trench of Lil Tecca's circle and Hiko Momoji, who has worked with Khalid.

The music moves between trap, forward-leaning R&B, electronic production and Afro-influenced rhythms, and Clash described it as a rap-meets-dance album that treats club music as something that happens in a physical room rather than through headphones. Track titles like NAKED ON A YACHT and PORSCHE POET sit next to THERAPIST and WHEN IT RAINS IT POURS, which is roughly the emotional range on offer.

Foux has been direct about the double meaning in the title. "It's fun and a good time, but it's also what I'm going through right now," he said in the Clash 134 cover feature, describing himself as hyper-aware of his surroundings and the album as a release rather than a celebration.

He was equally direct about why the record keeps moving. "People will project onto me what they want me to be," he added, saying that when everyone turns one way he looks to go somewhere else entirely, which is a fair description of a career that has bent UK rap around it more than once.

HotNewHipHop framed him as an artist a good part of the UK underground owes its sound to, and THE TIME OF OUR LIVES as another step rather than a summing-up. It files under hip-hop and is logged on the release calendar.
