BrooklynVegan, Alternative Press, Revolver and Goldmine have all been hit with mass layoffs under parent company Veeps, with nearly all staff at each publication let go. Pitchfork reported that emails to BrooklynVegan staffers, aside from founder Dave Levine, bounced back, and that Veeps and Live Nation had not responded to requests for comment.
Veeps, founded by Good Charlotte's Benji and Joel Madden as a ticketed livestream platform, is now part of Live Nation and appears to have owned the four publications since 2024 or 2025. Each outlet has a long history: Levine founded BrooklynVegan in 2004, Revolver has covered hard rock and metal since 2001, Goldmine has served record collectors in print since the mid-1970s, and Alternative Press was founded in Cleveland in 1985.
Publicist Jacob Daneman mourned the cuts on X, writing "RIP Brooklyn Vegan. Absolutely bewildering," and calling the closure "utterly unceremonious and moronic" on Veeps' part.
The four outlets' ownership paths differ slightly. Alternative Press joined the Madden family's media holdings earliest, acquired around 2020 by MDDN, the company that also owns Veeps, while BrooklynVegan, Revolver and Goldmine appear to have come under Veeps sometime in 2024 or 2025. A separate company, Project M, had at various points listed all four publications in its own portfolio before Veeps took over.
