Lexie dates the EP San Miguel for November and shares the single Swimming

Lexie has put a date on her next record. San Miguel, an EP, arrives on 6 November, and the Portland singer-songwriter has released its first song, Swimming, to introduce it. The Line of Best Fit carried the announcement on 21 September.

The EP follows Halcyon Days, the debut album Lexie released in June. That record was written across two things happening at once: treatment for cancer, and the end of a marriage that had lasted ten years. San Miguel comes from the other side of both. She wrote it between the summer of 2025 and the spring of 2026, a stretch she describes as reconnecting with her own body rather than recovering from something.

Swimming is the song she has picked to carry that. Lexie has said the turning point came while she was swimming in a river near Lago Maggiore in northern Italy, and felt her sexual energy return after a period when she had assumed it was gone for good. "I literally wondered what desire would look again, if I would ever feel it again," she said in a press statement.

The recording was done at Red Rockets Glare, the Portland studio run by Raymond Richards, with Alex Callenberger producing. Mastering went to John McEntire, the Tortoise drummer whose studio work runs through three decades of American independent music. For a songwriter two records into a career, that is a notable pair of names to have on a single.

What makes the song unusual is the subject it takes on directly. Desire after cancer treatment gets written about rarely in pop songwriting, and almost never as the thing a single is about rather than a line buried in a verse. Lexie has framed Swimming around a specific moment in a specific river, which keeps it concrete where the subject usually turns abstract.

The pairing of album and EP also says something about pace. Halcyon Days landed in June; San Miguel arrives less than five months later. Both were written in the same two-year window, which suggests a body of material that outgrew one release rather than a quick follow-up assembled to keep a campaign moving.

Nothing has been said yet about live dates behind the EP, and no further songs from San Miguel have been released. Swimming arrived with a video.
