Lily Seabird has shared "The Afterglow," the latest single from her upcoming album Lightspheres on Their Way, due October 2 via Lame-O Records. It follows earlier singles "Election Day" and "Portal to the Past."
Seabird wrote the song the day folk musician Michael Hurley died, scrawling it on the back of an electric bill in a coffee shop. "It came out all at once," she said, adding that part of the song imagines the perspective of a person who had crashed a car through her fence and into her yard a couple of weeks earlier. "I wrote this song when I still lived at trash mountain," she said.
"'The Afterglow' is about letting go," she continued, "and the glow that's left after a light has gone, and before a new light has come."
The album joins the rest of the fall's new indie releases on the release calendar.
