The 100 Club is marking 50 years since the punk festival that made its name, and it is doing it by charging what it charged in 1976. Tickets for the two anniversary shows at the Oxford Street venue are priced at 1.50 pounds, the same as the original, with Sprints headlining on 20 September and Maruja on 21 September.
The 1976 festival ran on those same two dates and put most of the first wave of British punk in one small basement room. Sex Pistols, The Clash, Siouxsie and the Banshees, The Damned, Buzzcocks, Subway Sect, Chris Spedding and The Vibrators and the Paris band Stinky Toys all played, and most of them were unsigned when they did. In the audience were Paul Weller, Shane MacGowan, Viv Albertine and Vivienne Westwood.
The venue had not started out as a punk room. It cut its teeth on blues and jazz before those September nights turned it into one of the crucibles of the scene, and it has traded on that reputation ever since without ever getting much bigger.
Sprints open the run following two albums, 2024's Letter To Self and 2025's All That Is Over, and the show will be one of the smallest rooms the Dublin band has played in some time. Maruja take the second night on the back of their debut Pain To Power, released last year, which established them as one of the louder propositions in current British punk.
Jeff Horton, who owns the 100 Club, framed the booking as an argument about the genre rather than a nostalgia exercise. "In my personal opinion, Punk is THE most important genre and subculture that the UK, or anyone else has ever produced," he said, pointing to the poverty, racism and sexism the scene grew out of.
Maruja described the booking as an honour and said playing the room with the weight of its history in it would make for a special night. Marshall and George Cox are backing the shows, and special guests for both dates are still to be announced. The anniversary lands in a busy year for British rock and punk landmarks, alongside events such as the God Save The Queens festival and Decolonise Fest's 2026 edition.
