Danish band Lowly announce a fourth album and share its title track

Danish five-piece Lowly have announced their fourth album, Softy, and shared its title track, The Line of Best Fit reported on August 4. It is the band's first full-length release in three years, following 2023's Keep Up the Good Work, and "Softy" arrives as the second preview after lead single "Liminal Space."

"Softy is an ode to our emotional core, how we build and train our emotions like any other muscle in our body," the band said of the album, describing lyrics that revolve around how relationships and parenthood can devour the emotion and love people have for those closest to them. Singer Nanna's chorus lyrics carry the thought through: "If your layer's too thin, just flow. If it's ripping your skin, just flow."

The ten-track record centers on raising children and finding community and strength amid a changing world. "When the world is going so crazy, bravery is more relevant than ever," drummer Steffen Lundtoft said. "We talked a lot about what do we want to do, why do we want to be a band under these circumstances," he added, saying the band chose to make an album that is not overproduced.

This is the first time the band has self-produced an indie album, after working with producer Anders Boll on their previous record. "For a lot of the production the band members weren't in the studio at the same time," vocalist Soffie Viemose said. "This time we just really wanted to be in a room together and play the music," she added, describing sessions in a rented house and in a studio in Aarhus as far more focused on being together.

Softy is due October 30 via Bella Union, joining the rest of the fall schedule at the release calendar.
