Lucy Park has released THREAD 27 in full, a short solo project that arrived on 28 August and reads as autobiography set to alt-soul. Clash, which covered the release, described it as the sound of a songwriter settling into her own craft rather than testing it.
She made her name with the debut EP Before I Speak, which folded alt-R&B into something personal enough to be hard to copy. More recently she worked with the production project H.LLS on GUERILLAZ, a collaboration that kept her visible while the solo material took shape.
The title of the new EP is her age, and the thread runs through the record in more than name. Opener BLUE SASHIKO takes its title from the Japanese art of embroidery, a form built on visible stitching that repairs as it decorates, and the lyrics across the EP are similarly interwoven around her own life and experiences.
PAINT ME A DREAM brings in Botaii for a duet, and the closing MOSAIC works as a statement of where she has landed, a piece assembled from fragments rather than a single line. Clash singled it out as evidence of creative confidence and maturity.
