Mally Mall is going back to federal prison for 17 months. A judge in Las Vegas handed down the term after the producer admitted five separate violations of his supervised release at a revocation hearing.
The admitted breaches were a failed drug test, witness tampering and concealing a secret room inside his Las Vegas home from probation officers, among others. Hiding a room from supervision is the sort of detail that tends to weigh heavily at a revocation hearing, because the whole arrangement depends on a probation officer being able to see what is there.
This is his second stint inside. In 2019 he pleaded guilty to running a high-end prostitution business dressed up as an escort service between 2002 and 2014, and served 33 months before being released under federal supervision. According to News 3 Las Vegas, he will get about three months of credit for time already served against the new sentence.
His lawyer drew a line between the two. Jack Buchanan told reporters after the hearing that "there is nothing within the allegations that he was continuing to sex traffic whatsoever", which is accurate as to the violations admitted and does not address the original conviction.
Before the legal trouble, Mally Mall had built a long production career. He has credits with Drake, Chris Brown, Usher, Snoop Dogg, Lupe Fiasco, Tyga, XXXTentacion, NBA YoungBoy, Justin Bieber and Rae Sremmurd, spanning more than two decades across hip-hop, R&B and pop.
He was also a public figure in his own right, appearing on VH1's Love and Hip Hop and releasing singles including Molly with Tyga and Wiz Khalifa, Drop Bands On It, and Where You At with French Montana and 2 Chainz.
