Maribou State announce hiatus after finishing their Hallucinating Love tour

Electronic duo Maribou State have announced a hiatus, closing out this chapter of the band with a headline show at London's LIDO Festival on August 31.

The news follows a deluxe edition of their Ninja Tune album Hallucinating Love, released August 21 with seven previously unreleased demo tracks and 14 remixes from artists including System Olympia, LOVEFOXY and Myd. The duo, Liam Ivory and Chris Davies, had already "pressed pause" once before, in 2024, before returning to finish the record.

Ivory described the years leading into the album as difficult ones. "Coming off the 2019 tour and going straight into lockdown was brutal timing. We'd been running on no sleep, not really looking after ourselves," he said, describing a period of health anxiety that shaped the record's eventual tone.

Looking back on the deluxe edition's demos, Ivory said the band had far more material than made the final cut. "There are literally hundreds of demos that didn't make the cut, currently collecting digital dust on our hard drives," he said. "The ones we picked for this release are the ones we still feel a real connection to."

After 18 months of touring behind Hallucinating Love, Ivory said the hiatus is about building a life not entirely shaped by a touring schedule rather than stepping away from music altogether. The LIDO show will be performed with the band's full orchestra and production, a version of the live set they have only played a handful of times before.
