Max Fry has detailed his new album, better luck next time, and shared a new single, "pretend," ahead of a September 2 release via Don't Be Greedy Records, The Line of Best Fit reported on August 12.
"pretend" follows two other 2026 singles, "i don't feel anymore" in June and "sinner" in July, all carrying emo-tinged songwriting drawn from shoegaze, post-punk and emo rap. Fry grew up in Orlando, where he came up through the local underground hardcore and house-show scene that still shapes his sound.
Fry released his debut EP, so close to ok, in 2023, led by breakout track "zombie." He followed it a year later with his debut album, more than dead to me.
Recent months have also seen him collaborate with Maggie Lindemann on "it's still you" and land a soundtrack placement in EA's Skate, alongside a run of shows opening for ThxSoMch and EKKSTACY.
better luck next time is one of the releases on the release calendar, part of a busy year for rock newcomers.
