Melbourne songwriter Suzi puts out a single called Short Lived

Melbourne indie rocker Suzi released a new single, "Short Lived," alongside praise from Dan Campbell of The Wonder Years, who took Suzi out as support on the band's Australian tour last year.

The song is a guitar-forward, hooky track about reluctant optimism, pulling from the same well as Soccer Mommy or The Beths; its chorus goes, "It makes no sense, I should have run by now," turning Suzi's usual specificity toward the moment of letting yourself hope anyway.

That specificity runs through her catalog: half-remembered conversations, anxious second-guessing, and the giddy rush of realizing a crush might be mutual are the kind of details Suzi's writing tends to reach for, according to The Line of Best Fit's premiere of the track.

Suzi has built her career largely on her own terms, self-releasing music in a Melbourne scene where indie, emo and pop-punk share space without much concern for genre boundaries. She has opened for The Wonder Years, Tigers Jaw and Mom Jeans, building a following by word of mouth.

Campbell called her "special," saying her melodies are immediate and infectious and that her lyrics feel like they have "lived in your head for years before you ever heard them." The song fits Suzi's place in Melbourne's crowded indie scene.
