Mind Bath has released "Dear Friend, Queer Friend," featuring Beverly Glenn-Copeland, the latest single from his upcoming album Aqueous, due September 4 via Lighter Than Air. It follows previous singles "Acid Nine," "Seasons Change And So Do I Bitch" and "Sea Jasmine."
The song's lyrics grew out of a chant Mind Bath learned at a 2019 Radical Faerie gathering celebrating Lammas, taught to him by a circle of fellow attendees: "Dear friend, queer friend. Let me tell you how I feel. You have given me such pleasure. I love you so."
Mind Bath called "Dear Friend, Queer Friend" one of the first songs written for the project, saying it "set the sonic tone for everything that followed." He built Aqueous, he said, "with deep magical intention and ritual flow."
The album's opening and closing tracks answer each other by design: "Acid Nine," the record's first song, opens with the line "those who came before us, with futuristic love, I'm listening," and Mind Bath wanted the album to close "kissed by an artist who had done just that."
Mind Bath called Glenn-Copeland "my hero," and said having him sing those words on the album's closing song "feels like the greatest musical gift I've ever given." Aqueous is out September 4 via Lighter Than Air, tracked in the release calendar.
