Italo disco duo Mind Enterprises release a mini-documentary about the band

Mind Enterprises have put out a mini-documentary about themselves, and the story it has to tell is a short and fast one. Andrea Tirone and Roberto Conigliaro built an audience on videos filmed in their own kitchen, mixing sportswear, Negronis and a great deal of Italo disco, and that was enough to carry them to an album earlier this year and then to Coachella.

The Coachella booking is the detail that changes the scale of the story. A duo whose defining format was a phone camera in a domestic kitchen playing the largest festival in the American desert is a jump that usually takes an act several records, and it happened to them inside a single release cycle.

Clash describes the film as an on-the-road piece that puts a viewer inside the pair's world rather than a conventional band documentary. It calls it a portrait of their friendship, and says it shows the humour, imagination and commitment the two of them carry.

That framing fits what they made their name on. The kitchen videos worked because two friends were visibly enjoying each other's company in a fixed setting, and a film that follows them out of that setting has to carry the same thing across a tour bus and a festival stage instead.

Practical details are not given. Clash reports no running time, no director credit and no platform, so what exists publicly is the film and the fact that it is out.

The pair remain an unusual act in electronic music for having grown almost entirely through short-form video without ever becoming a novelty, and the documentary is the first thing they have released that is about that rather than made of it. Their album is listed on the release calendar with the rest of the year's electronic releases.
