Mopreme Shakur says he is cautiously optimistic that the murder trial of Duane "Keefe D" Davis will finally answer questions about Tupac Shakur's 1996 killing. "I hope that the trial is fair, and we find out the truth," he told CNN, according to HotNewHipHop. He added that the last 30 years have been exhausting and stressful for the family, and that "we've waited so long for this moment."
"These are strange days we're living in," Mopreme told CNN. "Let the process take its course, and see where we land."
Davis, the only person charged in the case, has pleaded not guilty. Prosecutors allege he helped organize the shooting in retaliation for an earlier confrontation between his nephew, Orlando "Baby Lane" Anderson, and members of Tupac's entourage in Las Vegas. The case went unresolved for decades before renewed attention turned to Davis, partly on the strength of his own 2019 memoir, Compton Street Legend.
Mopreme, Tupac's stepbrother, said the family has "found ways to cope with the trauma" over the years. The trial may also revisit long-running claims about the East Coast-West Coast rap rivalry, including Davis's own disputed allegation that Sean "Diddy" Combs wanted Tupac and Suge Knight, who was in the car the night Tupac was shot and has said he won't testify, killed.
