Morrissey cancels his Las Vegas residency a week before it was set to start

The four-night Wynn run is the latest in a long history of canceled Morrissey shows.

Morrissey has canceled the four-night residency he had booked at the Wynn Las Vegas, a week before it was due to begin on August 14, NME reported on August 8. His team cited "unforeseen logistical challenges," and the dates have been pulled from the Wynn's own website.

In a statement posted on his official site, written in the third person, Morrissey said "Morrissey no cancela Las Vegas" ("Morrissey does not cancel Las Vegas"), arguing the shows could not happen "for logistical reasons that are outside Morrissey's control," Indie Hoy reported.

The residency was meant to support Morrissey's 14th solo album, Make-Up Is A Lie, released in March via Sire Records. It is only the latest cancellation in a run stretching back years: this year alone he has also called off shows in St. Petersburg, Florida, San Diego, St. Louis and Atlanta, the last blamed on "artist illness," and postponed a California date over what was described as an "adverse reaction to a prescription medication."

According to a tally by the site We Heart Music, cited by Indie Hoy, Morrissey canceled 346 shows between 1991 and February 2024, including dates on a planned 1996 co-headline run with David Bowie, a cancellation some have speculated contributed to a falling-out between the two. Morrissey has also called off Latin American dates in recent years, including a Buenos Aires show in February 2024 citing health reasons less than three weeks before it was due, and a tour last year blamed on "extreme exhaustion."

Morrissey is still set to return to the UK for five arena shows in December, in Brighton, Cardiff, Liverpool, Glasgow and Leeds.
