Nardia cuts the album Own Every Scar between Melbourne, Nashville and Memphis

Nardia released an album called Own Every Scar on 18 September, and its recording itinerary is longer than most independent records manage. The ten songs were cut across Melbourne, Nashville, Memphis and Los Angeles, which is four cities on two continents for a singer-songwriter who is still being introduced as a rising artist.

The production roster explains some of that travel. Boo Mitchell, the Grammy-winning producer who runs Royal Studios in Memphis, is on it, alongside Darin James and the Australian producer Ivan Khatchoyan of Choi Productions. Royal is the room where Al Green and a great deal else was made, and an Australian artist getting into it is not a small thing.

The title track doubles as the focus single, and the credits on it are the clearest picture of how the record was assembled. Nardia and Darin James share the writing, James produced it, and Mitchell mixed it at Royal Studios. Musically SoulTracks puts it across R&B, soul and blues, which is the same triangle the album works inside.

Nardia describes the song as being about embracing the experiences that shape who a person becomes, the good ones and the bad. The album around it is built on resilience, vulnerability, healing and self-acceptance, which is familiar territory for a soul record and is given some weight here by how specific the playing is.

SoulTracks frames the whole thing as the point where several years of work come together. Nardia has spent that time building a reputation for a sound that moves comfortably between soul, R&B, blues and jazz, and the outlet reads Own Every Scar as those strands finally pulled into one place rather than alternating track by track.

She arrives with a chart credential already. Her breakout single Is It You reached number one on the Urban Influencer Independent R&B/Soul Chart in the United States, which is a niche chart and also a real one, and it is the record that got her noticed outside Australia.

The blues side of her CV is what makes the Memphis sessions make sense. In 2025 she finished in the top five at the International Blues Challenge in Memphis, and was reportedly the only female performer to reach the finals from a field of more than 400 acts. That is the kind of result that opens studio doors in that city.

One correction to our earlier note, which recorded three recording cities and no production credits. Los Angeles is a fourth, and three producers are named on the page. What is genuinely missing is a label and a full tracklist.
