Reese Weil and Nef The Pharaoh have released a new song called "Money," AllHipHop reported on August 7. The Northern California artists built the track around the moment a one-sided relationship becomes impossible to ignore, pairing relationship-driven lyrics with melodic West Coast hip-hop and Bay Area bounce production from Dana Hocking.
"'Money' is about realizing that no amount of giving can make someone love you back," Weil said. "At some point you have to choose your own peace and walk away."
The song came together fast: Nef was in Chico, California, to perform and film a music video for another song, "The One," with Weil and Cotati7z, and Weil wrote the hook for "Money" only a couple of hours before Nef arrived. Once the session started, Nef recorded his verse within minutes.
AllHipHop tied the song to Weil's broader style, which blends West Coast hip-hop, melodic pop and alternative-rock influences, drawing on a background that started with guitar before he moved into production and composition at Berklee College of Music.
The pairing puts two Northern California rap scenes side by side, with Weil's Chico base and Nef's Vallejo roots sitting inside the same broader Bay Area lineage that produced acts like Too Short and E-40, who recently pitched their own two-on-two Verzuz team-up. "Money" frames the breakup less as a collapse and more as a boundary being drawn, with Weil and Nef treating walking away as an act of self-respect rather than defeat.
