Neil Perry says The Band Perry terminated him in 2024

Neil Perry says he was terminated from The Band Perry in 2024, laying out on Instagram the conversations that left the group as his sister Kimberly Perry and her husband, Johnny Costello, Taste of Country reported on August 12.

Neil wrote that by May 2024 the siblings were barely on speaking terms and their brother Reid had stopped engaging in band business. When Kimberly proposed bringing the group back, he said he was offered three options: continue as a duo, hold auditions, or have Johnny join. "I was fine with the first two," Neil wrote, "but soon understood Kimberly wanted to move forward with the third. We ultimately decided not to proceed."

Reid rejoined the band weeks later through talks Neil says he was left out of. He was given three days to decide whether to continue, missed that window asking for a follow-up conversation, and was told he was out of time; a month after that, he says, he was pushed out under the group's two-thirds partnership agreement, losing his financial interest and access to the band's resources.

Saving Country Music, in a report the next day, said Neil's account directly contradicts comments Kimberly gave Rolling Stone Country's Nashville Now podcast, where she said her brothers were "very interested in the Band Perry getting landed as well." Radio host Bobby Bones raised the same doubt on his own show, telling Kimberly, "You come back, you, your brother, and your husband, then you drop your brother," to which she replied it "just happened the way it happened."

The outlet also reported that this version of The Band Perry has since landed a label deal and booking representation, and has played festival slots including Two Step Inn and Bristol Rhythm and Roots; readers can follow more festival bookings on the festival tracker.

Kimberly, Neil and Reid released their first country single, "Hip to My Heart," in 2009, before "If I Die Young" became their signature hit. The trio moved toward pop, split for several years, and reformed in 2025 without Neil, who now records as a solo artist under the name WOLVESofJUNE.
