Rapper Playa Pat faces 20 years to life after federal drug convictions

Playa Pat, legally named Jovon Booker, faces 20 years to life in federal prison after a jury convicted him of discharging a handgun during drug trafficking and possessing a firearm to advance the operation; he had already pleaded guilty before jury selection to drug conspiracy, money laundering conspiracy and five jewelry-related laundering counts.

Trial evidence showed the Pensacola rapper moved hundreds of kilograms of marijuana from the Seattle area into Pensacola between 2020 and 2025. Prosecutors said the operation produced millions while Playa Pat reported no legitimate income and put proceeds into a Lamborghini Urus, jewelry and luxury watches; authorities seized more than $500,000 in cash, vehicles, guns and jewelry.

Jurors also heard that Playa Pat shot a co-conspirator at close range inside Paparazzi Bistro & Lounge over a drug debt in May 2024.

A federal jury convicted the 33-year-old rapper on Thursday. A regional law enforcement official identified by AllHipHop only as Heekin said the case "exemplified the unified commitment of our state and federal law enforcement partners to keep our communities safe," attributing the outcome to ridding the area of what the official called a violent drug operation.

Before the case, Playa Pat had talked to AllHipHop about his early love of music, tracing it back to listening to Lil Boosie as a teenager before moving toward Future's influence, and described working with collaborator Dollah Dae on new material he was preparing to release.

AllHipHop had covered his sold-out hometown show with Rob49 and his 2023 debut single "Trap Blessed," which preceded plans for an album called Spot Boomin said to include three Metro Boomin-produced records, though it isn't established that the album was ever officially released. Judge M. Casey Rodgers will sentence Playa Pat on November 5. The conviction ends a run that had been building Playa Pat's profile in hip-hop.
