Post Common set a self-titled first EP

Post Common have announced their first EP, a self-titled four-track release out on 20 November through Brace Yourself Records, and shared its lead single "Space/Time".

The Brighton trio is drawn from bands that already have histories. Stuart Hopkins plays guitar and sings, Ian Humes plays bass and John Newton drums and sings, with current and former members of JOHN, TRAAMS and Sisterland between them.

The group came together after Hopkins moved back to Brighton. He and Newton bonded over a shared love of DIY punk rock, Dischord Records in particular, and over an interest in pushing industrial and electronic elements into it, with the New York duo Suicide as a reference point. Humes joined on bass after befriending Newton in a record shop.

"This was the first experiment of me writing lyrics and Stu mangling them in his own way," Newton said of "Space/Time", calling it an illustration of an exquisite corpse process built on drum pads and electronics rather than traditional instrumentation.

The band describe the writing as sometimes collaborative and sometimes separate, with one writer pulling toward the dystopian and industrial while the other stays personal and introspective, a split they liken to the outside and the inside of the same house.

They recorded at The Bookhouse in South London with engineer Tom Hill. The EP runs "Space/Time", "Check Atomiser", "Invisible Tools" and "Paywall", four songs of indie and rock writing with the electronics left in, and the November date is on the release calendar.
