Report moves rapper Diddy's prison release date back again

Diddy's projected release date from federal prison has moved back to February 20, 2028, according to Bureau of Prisons records, reversing a January 24, 2028 date that had been set only a week earlier. The change adds 27 days back onto his projected stay, part of a pattern of dates moving up and down for months.

The date has shifted repeatedly through 2026. Diddy's release was originally set for May 8, 2028, then pushed to June 4, 2028 after a reported rules violation. It was cut by 40 days in March to April 25, 2028, moved up again to February 23, 2028 in June, and then to January 24, 2028 in late July, before this latest reversal put it back near where it stood in June.

The reversal follows a July altercation at FCI Fort Dix that landed Diddy in solitary confinement, after another inmate made a remark to him, according to an unnamed source cited by ABC News. Witness accounts described shoving and punches before officers separated the two men. Former warden Dr. DeWayne Hendrix cautioned against assuming the fight caused the delay, saying Diddy "appeared to be making positive institutional progress" beforehand. AllHipHop described the Fort Dix incident as Diddy's first reported physical confrontation in custody, though his friend Charlucci Finney has said Diddy once woke up to a knife at his throat during an earlier stay at a different facility, an account a fellow former inmate, Raymond Castillo, has disputed as instead a dispute over a chair that never turned violent.

Separately, Judge Arun Subramanian signed an order on August 4 forfeiting $9,000 in cash and a collection of electronics, including iPhones, hard drives and a MacBook Pro, seized from Diddy's arrest at Manhattan's Park Hyatt Hotel on September 16, 2024. The order also covers items from a March 25, 2024 raid on his Los Angeles home, including hard drives, thumb drives, iPads and the Sony DVCAM cassettes labeled "Ibiza Tapes," a set of recordings now moving toward forfeiture in a case of its own. No party filed a claim contesting the forfeiture within the required 30-day window.

Diddy is serving a 50-month sentence after being convicted in October 2025 on two prostitution-related transportation counts and acquitted of racketeering conspiracy and sex trafficking. His legal team is appealing the sentence to the Second Circuit as excessive given the acquittals on the more serious charges; the court heard arguments on April 9 and has not yet ruled.
