Sadurn have released "never tell me," the second single from their upcoming album The Underworld, due out October 16 via Run For Cover Records, The Line of Best Fit reported on August 12. It follows lead single "whole thing" and arrives with a puppet-led music video.
"Never tell me is one of my favourite songs I've ever written, I think," vocalist G DeGroot said. The song has long served as a closer in Sadurn's live sets, predating the release of the band's 2022 debut, Radiator.
DeGroot said the track started forming in 2021 around a breakup, then sat unfinished for six months. "I was able to write it alongside the full band, we had only recently started playing together," DeGroot said, adding that it was fun bringing the song to her bandmates while it was still in progress.
That process marks a shift from how Radiator came together. DeGroot originally wrote those earlier songs alone, as an acoustic duo, and adapted them for the full band afterward. The Underworld's songs, by contrast, were mostly built with the band in mind from the start.
The Underworld blends alt-country, bedroom pop and indie rock across its tracklist. It is one of the releases on the release calendar, part of a strong year for indie and country crossovers.
