Schwefelgelb turn Sextile's Women Respond To Bass into a club single

Sextile have handed Women Respond To Bass to Schwefelgelb, and the Berlin techno duo have pushed it considerably closer to the dancefloor than the album version ever sat. The remix is out now on Sacred Bones Records.

The original appeared on yes, please, the album Sextile released last year, where it was one of the tracks reviewers kept coming back to. Taking a standout and letting somebody else rebuild it is a different move from farming out a lead single, and Sextile have picked a pair who work in a neighbouring corner of the same scene.

That overlap is the reason they asked. "We've been fans of Schwefelgelb for years and have been wanting to do something together for a while," the band say, adding that they play the duo's records whenever they DJ and that the crossover between the two acts was already there to be used.

What Schwefelgelb hand back is described by The Line of Best Fit as a club-forward take, which in practice means the song has been rebuilt around the floor rather than around the record it came from. Sextile's own framing is that the pair made it theirs, which is the point of asking in the first place.

No remix album, no EP and no further reworkings have been announced, so this is a single release rather than the first entry in a package. It is filed with the rest of the week's electronic output on the release calendar.
