Club 69, the Paisley nightclub that first opened below a curry house in 1989, will close for good on October 10 after a run of final parties.
The venue's team announced the closure on Instagram, calling the club a "passion project" without giving a specific reason for shutting down. "It's been an absolute pleasure to have played a small part in the legendary venue's long journey," they wrote, noting that journey stretches back to the club's very first party in 1989.
Sometimes nicknamed the "rave cave," Club 69 helped launch DJ Jackmaster's early career and has hosted acts including Underground Resistance, Leftfield and Juan Atkins over nearly four decades in the basement space just outside Glasgow.
A string of closing parties will run across the next seven weeks, mixing outside promoters with past residents, before the final night on October 10. The club's operators also invited anyone interested in continuing the venue's work to reach out through a business sale inquiry.
"Before we go, we would like to say a huge thank you to everyone we've worked with along the way," the team wrote, thanking staff, DJs, suppliers and the ravers who kept the venue going, and leaving open the possibility that the electronic club could continue under new ownership.
