Indie folk singer Selines releases second album "(Nostalgia)" on Interscope

Selines released her second studio album, "(Nostalgia)," in May 2026, marking her first project since signing with Interscope Records, the Los Angeles Times reported. The 13-song set is the Mexican American singer-songwriter's major label debut, and it wrestles with what it means to leave the place where she grew up. It follows her 2023 breakout single "Me Empiezo a Enamorar," written when she was just 15, and her independently released 2024 debut album, "Circo de Amor."

Born and raised in the Bronx to Mexican parents, Selines grew up in a pocket of the city that Mexican New Yorkers call Puebla York, named for the Mexican state many families there trace their roots to. She spent years preparing to become a doctor, the plan her parents expected, until she won a spot in the choir at LaGuardia High School, the arts school that also shaped Timothee Chalamet and Nicki Minaj, after auditioning with an Elvis Presley song instead of the classical piece organizers wanted.

The eldest-daughter role weighed on her growing up, since she helped raise two younger siblings, one of whom co-wrote the album's only English-language track, "Universe." "I realized that home wasn't going back to the house that I knew," Selines told the Times, describing how "(Nostalgia)" reframes home around the people she carries with her rather than a fixed address.

The album arrives during a busy stretch for the singer, who headlined a sold-out show at the Love Song Bar in downtown Los Angeles this spring after previously opening for Carla Morrison, DannyLux and Julieta Venegas. Her mellow indie folk sound sits apart from the corridos and banda that dominate much of Los Angeles's música mexicana scene, which is part of why she has ruled out moving there and is instead eyeing Chicago as a slower-paced second home base.
