The Sex Pistols, with Frank Carter fronting the band, have added six more UK dates to their winter 50 Years Of Punk tour. Tickets for the whole run go on general sale on Friday, Sept. 4 at 10am BST.
The new shows are at Leeds O2 Academy, Newcastle NX, Liverpool Olympia, Birmingham O2 Academy, Portsmouth Guildhall and Bristol Prospect Building. They join the dates announced earlier this year, which open at Dublin's 3Arena on Dec. 7 and take in Edinburgh's Corn Exchange, Glasgow's O2 Academy and two London shows at Brixton Academy and the Eventim Apollo.
That makes 11 dates in December, running from Leeds on the 4th to the Eventim Apollo on the 20th. The additions push the tour out of arenas and into academy-sized rooms in most of the cities, which is closer to the scale the material was written for.
The anniversary is specific. 1976 was the year the original line-up played the run of gigs that made their reputation, at the Marquee, the 100 Club, the Nashville and the El Paradiso strip club, before they recorded Never Mind The Bollocks.
The most consequential of those shows were not in London at all. The band's two nights at Manchester's Lesser Free Trade Hall are among the most influential concerts ever staged, credited with setting off musicians who went on to form Joy Division, The Smiths and The Fall.
Half a century on, the band is touring with a different singer and the 50th anniversary year has produced a wider set of rock and punk events around it, including a new London festival called God Save The Queens. The full schedule is on the tour guide.
