Shaboozey releases new album "The Outlaw Cherie Lee"

Shaboozey released his second album, "The Outlaw Cherie Lee & Other Western Tales," on August 11, reviewed by Saving Country Music at 6.5 out of 10. The 20-track concept record follows a fictional sheriff's daughter who sets out to avenge her father's murder by an outlaw gang called the Boot Cut Boys, then falls into a romance with one of the outlaws, a role the review says Shaboozey loosely plays himself throughout the record.

Its dozen producers and seven guest appearances pull the story through several genres at once: rapped verses on the opening songs, straight traditional country on "If I Was An Outlaw," a western fiddle ballad in "Bounty on My Head," and the stomp-clap contemporary folk of lead singles "Cowgirl" and "Born To Die," which the review compared more to the Lumineers and Noah Kahan than to Willie Nelson or Marty Robbins.

The guest list includes Gunna, rapping through the hip-hop cut "High Noon," country singer Orville Peck, and a spoken cameo from actor Sam Elliott. The review argued the record asks a lot of listeners expecting a straightforward western album, since the second song alone leans fully into programmed hip-hop production before the traditional-country and folk material arrives later in the tracklist.

Written under the outlet's Trigger byline, the review credited Shaboozey for the ambition of the concept while calling some of its genre choices "ill-fitting," and compared the record to Beyonce's "Cowboy Carter" in how a differently marketed album might have drawn less resistance from genre purists. Its 6.5 score, the review noted, reflects more positive material than negative across the 20 tracks.

The album lands in the release calendar as one of August's new country releases, arriving as Shaboozey's second full-length overall.
