Long-running Sheffield nightclub Tank is closing this weekend after 12 years. In a statement shared via Instagram on August 5, the venue's team confirmed that "as of next week Tank will be no more," with its final party set for Saturday, August 9.
Tank launched in 2014 in collaboration with Sheffield bassline figure Jamie Duggan, who has run the venue since it opened, and became a fixture of the city centre's electronic music scene, bringing in artists including Patrick Topping, Solardo, Hybrid Minds, Silva Bumpa and Shy FX over its run.
Tank's team pointed to "ever-growing costs and obstacles" behind the decision to shut down. "In today's climate those standards simply cannot be maintained," the statement read. "With monthly costs spiralling, it has become impossible to carry on."
This is not the first time the venue has come close to shutting its doors. "We actually realised this a few years ago and nearly closed then," the team wrote, referencing a 2022 closure scare, "but the love and support you showed us meant we had to give it one last shot." The team said they completely refurbished the club and gave it everything they had.
Tank described itself as a venue built on "the biggest acts, the best sound, cutting-edge lighting" while keeping "affordable drink and ticket prices," a run the team said it never expected to last this long after opening in 2014. No word has been given on what will happen to the space once Tank's final party wraps up.
