Six crew hurt in a forklift accident after an Ed Sheeran concert in Detroit

Six workers were injured while loading out after Ed Sheeran's Saturday concert at Ford Field in Detroit. Consequence reported the incident on September 1, citing local coverage from WDIV.

Two of those hurt were in serious condition and four stable at the time of reporting. The fire department, dispatched at about 11pm, said a forklift was involved and that none of the injuries were life threatening.

The crew were breaking down the stage when it happened. Workers told WDIV that the equipment lost control and struck several of them near a backstage tunnel used to move stage gear in and out. One worker, granted anonymity, said he was hit in the chest and had never seen anything like it, describing the whole thing as a split second. At least one of those injured stayed in hospital overnight.

Ford Field confirmed that one of the injured worked for the stadium. "Ford Field has begun a full review and is cooperating with the appropriate authorities and with the event's production partners," the venue said in a statement.

The stadium added that it would not speculate on the cause out of respect for those involved and the integrity of the review, and thanked the Detroit Fire Department and EMS for their response.

Sheeran is midway through the LOOP Tour behind his album Play, which started in June and runs into early November. Two nights at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford follow on September 4 and 5.
