SoundCloud lets artists sell music directly from their profiles

The new buy button sends zero percent back to SoundCloud, launching this fall.

SoundCloud has started letting artists sell music directly to fans from their own profiles, and says it will take no commission on the sales. The company launched the feature in beta on August 26, opening it to roughly 200 US-based Artist Pro creators who have Fan Support enabled.

Those artists can set prices for eligible tracks, make previously stream-only songs available for purchase, and track sales through Artist Studio and the Fan Support Dashboard. Fans can find, buy and download tracks without leaving SoundCloud, in whatever format the artist supplies, and artists keep the proceeds minus standard fees and taxes.

"Artists should be able to build their audience in one place, on one platform," SoundCloud CEO Eliah Seton said in the announcement. "We're continuing to bring more of what they need to grow their careers into that same experience, while letting fans directly support the music they love." The company says more than 250,000 artists have already linked over 2.4 million tracks to outside platforms, and that it sends more than half a million users a year elsewhere to buy music, a gap the new tool is meant to close.

The launch extends a run of monetization changes at SoundCloud, following the removal of its distribution revenue share in November 2025, the launch of Follower Exclusive Releases in March 2026, and July's acquisition of Nina Protocol, a platform built around direct-to-fan sales. Access to the new purchase feature will widen through the beta before reaching all eligible creators later this fall.

The move puts SoundCloud in more direct competition with Bandcamp, which takes 15% of digital sales before dropping to 10% once an artist passes $5,000 in sales, at a moment when downloads and other digital formats continue shrinking as a share of the wider music market.
