Stephen Day announces self-titled album for October

Songwriter Stephen Day will release his self-titled album October 2 through Riser House, alongside the third single from the record, "You Wouldn't Know."

Day described the tension behind the song simply: "It's that age old tension between the head and the heart," he said, adding that it's written for anyone who wants to lay their emotions on the line but is not ready to risk them going unreturned.

The album is co-produced by longtime collaborator Micah Tawlks and Ian Fitchuk, and moves between soul, R&B, rock and pop across songs like opener "It Is What It Is," lead single "Rock Bottom Baby," and the pop-rock detours of "Annie Breakdown" and "Yes I Do."

One track, "Mama, I Found Your Guitar," tells Day's own origin story: his father is a pastor and his mother a nurse practitioner who sang at church, and the song traces back to the afternoon he found her guitar in a closet and asked her to teach him a few chords. The track was recorded on that same nylon-string guitar.

The full 13-track album runs "It Is What It Is," "Rock Bottom Baby," "Annie Breakdown," "Yes I Do," "Back In My Bed," "Cry Baby," "Heartbreak Is Up Ahead," "You Wouldn't Know," "Don't Leave Me Like This," "Mama, I Found Your Guitar," "Leanin' On My Truck," "Supernova" and "Picture's Perfect."

Day will support the album with a 25-date U.S. tour this fall, kicking off October 3 in Minneapolis and running through November 21, part of a fall run of country tours worth tracking on the tour guide. The album itself lands on the release calendar October 2.
