The Power of 3, a new power trio featuring guitarist Orianthi, drummer Cindy Blackman Santana and bassist Rhonda Smith, have announced their self-titled debut album, out December 11 via She2Music.

Ahead of the release, the band has unveiled two songs: lead single "War in the Streets," a Hendrix-style bluesy rocker, backed with "Treat Me Like a Lady." On "War in the Streets," the three musicians dig into a shared riff rather than reaching for individual pyrotechnics, with an active, deep-pocketed bass line anchoring a closing minute built around a hooky guitar solo from Orianthi.

The trio's individual résumés are considerable. Orianthi was the original guitarist selected for Michael Jackson's planned This Is It residency and has since played with Alice Cooper while building her own solo career. Cindy Blackman Santana has performed with her husband Carlos Santana as well as Pharoah Sanders and John McLaughlin, landing at No. 20 on a list of the 100 best drummers of all time. Rhonda Smith spent years playing with Prince and Jeff Beck, ranking at No. 35 among the greatest bassists of all time.

"I know people all over the world want to see us," Orianthi said of the project, describing the trio as "a powerhouse" rather than a solo vehicle: "It's not just me... this is a real band." The album positions the trio as a genuine collaborative unit rather than a one-off pairing of famous names, built on decades of session and touring work each member brings from careers spanning rock and blues, echoing other recent supergroup pairings like Gatta Morta's mix of Melvins and Butthole Surfers players.

The Power of 3's self-titled debut arrives December 11, part of a summer that has seen veteran musicians increasingly team up outside their main projects, from this trio to Nick Cave revisiting his Preston Park show with Kylie Minogue. The band is expected to tour behind the record once it is released.
