Susanna Hoffs, co-founder of the Bangles, has announced a new album, The List, due September 18 on her own label, Baroque Folk, Consequence reports. She released the lead single, "Casablanca," alongside the announcement.
The List is Hoffs' first collection of all-new material since 2012's Someday. The 12-track album was produced by CJ Camerieri, whose credits include work with Bon Iver and Paul Simon, and was made with collaborators including Rufus Wainwright, Dan Wilson, Edie Brickell, Greg Leisz and Ryan Lerner. A press release describes the songs as channeling Hoffs' "sense of humor, keen powers of observation and eye for detail" into songs about love, loss and reinvention.
"Casablanca" is a mellow, driving track that Hoffs says draws on a surreal 1988 New Orleans encounter with Grateful Dead guitarist Bob Weir, describing it as her own "here's looking at you, kid" moment. The song follows Hoffs' 2024 album The Lost Record, which collected previously unreleased material she recorded in the 1990s.
Hoffs heads out on tour this fall in support of The List, starting September 5 at Largo in Los Angeles. The run includes previously announced dates opening for Billy Idol's "It's a Nice Day To... Tour Again!," newly added shows at Sea.Hear.Now Festival in Asbury Park and Oceans Calling Festival in Ocean City, and a five-night residency at The Carlyle in New York starting September 24.
