The Guest List, a Manchester indie band, release new single Mundane

The Guest List have released a new single called Mundane, NME reported on August 8. The Manchester indie five-piece's frontman Cai Alty sings about the small, grinding frustrations of everyday life, from fitting curtains to soaking dishes, on what NME called an anthemic track.

Mundane follows the singles You Should Care, If Ever Your Devil Is Kind and the album's title track as previews of the band's debut album Something Real, due August 28 and already one of the entries on the release calendar. "The lyrics are about the monotony of the every day, fitting curtains, soaking dishes, things that can start to drive us mad," Alty said of the song's origins.

Something Real was recorded in Norway with Matias Tellez and produced in part by The Coral's James Skelly. Across its 12 songs, the record also takes on mental health, climate change and domestic violence. "We're young, we're confused just like you, how did we get here?" Alty said of the album's core question, adding that it's an attempt "to find something meaningful in a world that often feels overwhelming."

The Guest List formed in 2021 and released their debut EP When The Lights Are Out last year, since supporting Blossoms and Inhaler on the road. They play Reading & Leeds and Victorious later this month, ahead of a UK and European headline tour that begins in Brussels on October 20.

The tour's UK leg opens in Newcastle on November 17 and wraps with a London Scala date on November 24. Mundane is the band's latest step toward Something Real, and one of the more anthemic entries in our indie coverage this month.
