London three-piece The Molotovs are set to kick off King's Cross Summer Sounds with a free David Bowie tribute show, tied to an immersive Lightroom exhibition of Bowie's archive currently running in the same neighborhood. Ashaine White and former Magic Gang frontman Jack Kaye support, and every act on the bill is set to include a Bowie cover.
"We can't wait to get on stage at King's Cross Summer Sounds, and to pay tribute to David Bowie, one of this company's musical legends," Matt Cartlidge of The Molotovs said. "The Lightroom show is phenomenal and this gig is going to be something special." The punk sibling duo have previously named Bowie as a direct inspiration for their debut album, Wasted On Youth.
The Molotovs will follow the King's Cross show with a full UK and Ireland tour beginning September 3 in Cardiff and running through Nottingham, Brighton, Glasgow, Newcastle, Sheffield, Leeds, Liverpool, Manchester and Birmingham before closing at London's O2 Forum Kentish Town on September 25, then crossing to Belfast and Dublin in early October.
The Lightroom exhibition itself opened in April, drawing on thousands of hours of film from the David Bowie Archive in New York, from "Space Oddity" to "Heroes" to "Blackstar," projected around a cube-shaped room with audio adapted to the venue's spatial sound system. It has already hosted a run of Bowie-themed events, including a conversation between Anna Calvi and longtime Bowie guitarist Carlos Alomar.
