The Tallest Man on Earth announces new album

The Tallest Man on Earth, the project of Swedish songwriter Kristian Matsson, has announced a new album, "Just Beyond Endless Mountain," due October 9 via Anti-. The record follows "Colors," the first new song Matsson had shared since 2023, released back in May, and is previewed further by a new single, "Deliver Me From Trying," backed by a video shot in the Swedish countryside.

Matsson said the album pulls directly from the traditional folk music of Sweden's Dalarna region, where he grew up, after years of keeping it at a distance. "Somewhere along the way I'd developed this immature aversion to the whole cultural inheritance I grew up with," he said, adding that he has since read extensively, not just about the music but about how people actually lived there in earlier generations.

He described the result as his most personal record yet: "I think that's part of why this record feels more like me than anything I've made before." "Just Beyond Endless Mountain" is Matsson's follow-up to 2023's "Henry St.," and its eleven songs include "The Wildest of His Dreams," "Colors," "We Got the Pony," "Scully, It's Me," the title track, "Overboda," "Deliver Me From Trying," "Times," "The Forest Keeper," "In the Silver Wire Up the Hill" and "The Village."

Matsson will tour North America this fall in support of the album, though specific dates were not announced alongside the record itself.

The album lands in the release calendar among the rest of the fall's new indie releases, with The Tallest Man on Earth's tour expected to follow in the tour guide.
