Thomas Rhett, country singer, shares that his sister-in-law is now cancer free

Thomas Rhett shared that his sister-in-law Macy is now cancer free, dedicating "Life Changes" to her during a show at Bethel Woods Center for the Arts in Bethel, New York, on Friday, August 14. "Two days ago was her birthday, and on her birthday, she found out that she was completely cancer-free," Rhett told the crowd, saying she had fought the disease "like a dadgum champion."

Macy was first diagnosed with cancer in February 2026, according to Us Weekly. She had shared a hopeful update of her own in July, marking the end of her chemotherapy and writing online that she still expected surgery and likely radiation ahead, even as she called finishing chemo "the happiest day."

Macy's July post went further than that one line. She wrote that she was "officially done with chemo," calling the words surreal to say, and described the experience as one that had "completely changed" her. She said she was "so grateful" for it despite the difficulty, and credited leaning on her faith for getting her through the hardest stretches of treatment.

Rhett's announcement came from the stage rather than social media. Jessica Buono, a colleague at Taste of Country's parent company Townsquare Media who was at the Bethel Woods show, told the outlet that Rhett had recently been dedicating "Life Changes" to his own children before choosing to change it up for Macy that night.

Rhett is far from the only country star whose family has faced cancer, a reminder of how often the disease touches artists on the road just as it touches anyone else.
