Majid Jordan have released Two Roads, a 15-track album that arrived on 28 August. The Toronto pair, signed to OVO Sound, kept almost all of it in their own hands and brought in only two guests: Clementine Douglas on Best Behaviour and Naomi Sharon on Island Time.
Over a decade together the duo have widened the lexicon of modern soul by pushing lush, lucid electronics and left-field production into it, and Clash rated Two Roads a standout even against their own catalogue. The textures are warm but the sonics are deliberately a little raw and lo-fi, and the world-building the pair are known for is matched here to some of their sharpest writing.
The sequence moves from Have I Gone Too Far? through Cold, Strangers and Rich Man before easing into Rather Be With You and See You Again, and closes on Every Last Bit Of My Love, Thank You and the title track. It runs as one continuous piece more than a collection of singles.
The duo described the release in plain terms. "Two Roads is the album we've wanted to create our entire careers; it's something incredibly dear to our hearts," they said, adding that they kept reminding each other through writing and recording to stay focused and listen closely.
Filed under R&B and soul with a heavy electronic streak, Two Roads is out now and sits alongside the rest of the week's releases on the release calendar.
