Travis Barker documentary Louder Than Fear gets a trailer

The first trailer for Travis Barker's documentary, Louder Than Fear, is out, tracing what NME calls his battle with "pain, grief and the thin line between survival and surrender." The trailer opens with the aftermath of a 2008 plane crash that badly injured Barker, before moving through his rise as the drummer in Blink-182 and his addiction to painkillers during the band's touring years. The trailer landed the same week Barker told the Associated Press he almost died.

The crash killed Barker's assistant, Chris "Lil Chris" Baker, his bodyguard, Charles "Che" Still, and the pilot and co-pilot; Barker and DJ AM survived, though DJ AM died of an overdose a year later. Barker suffered third-degree burns across 65 percent of his body and spent three months in hospital undergoing 27 surgeries. "Che and Chris were like brothers to me," he says in the trailer. "And then AM passing away a year later... why am I here, when everyone else isn't?"

Barker has described the toll of those touring years in stark terms, saying his addiction to painkillers grew severe enough that he hired "a security guard whose only job was to watch me sleep and make sure I was breathing." He has also said the anxiety and depression that followed the crash became so severe he once offered a friend $1 million to kill him.

The late Foo Fighters drummer Taylor Hawkins appears in the film too, recalling Barker's arrival in the industry as someone who was "gonna get picked up by a band" and "be a star attraction." Mark Hoppus and Tom DeLonge, who brought Barker into rock band Blink-182, also feature, along with Barker's wife, Kourtney Kardashian, and his children.

The crash also left Barker afraid to fly for years; he took his first flight in 13 years in 2021, with Kardashian beside him. He appeared at both of the 2022 tribute concerts for Hawkins, in London and Los Angeles, and later revealed he had asked Hawkins to play drums together shortly before Hawkins's own death.

The 90-minute film, described as "unfiltered," premiered at the Tribeca Festival this summer and streams on Hulu and Disney+ from August 13. Barker has said Blink-182 are working on a new album, their first since 2023's One More Time...
